Popcorn
This playful artwork brings popcorn pieces to life as they leap from the bowl with animated energy. The colored pencil rendering creates a vibrant scene, while the 3-D popcorn, scattered beyond the confines of the drawing, enhances the sense of movement and excitement. The popcorn pieces break the boundaries of the image, spilling onto the mat and edge of the frame. Ironically, the colors in this piece are using colors ranked as top interior design Pantone colors for 2025. On the lower left, a simple purple bear, gazes at the scene, taking it all in. Bear in Captivity invites multiple interpretations: it can represent the journey from a cold, isolating world to a warmer, more vibrant one; the struggle to break free from personal or social barriers to freedom; or the challenge of expanding creative thinking—from small, confined ideas to bigger, more dynamic ones. The bear, puzzled and contemplating the scene, represents a yearning for growth, connection, or change, yet the absence of a clear path emphasizes the uncertainty of how to get there.
